Community Lunch 2nd November 2022

What a great way to end our Community Lunch year! It was such an enjoyable and festive occasion, organised with their normal excellence by Jane Robinson, Doreen LaForest and their team of fabulous helpers. The theme was Christmas, and our guests arrived to festive decorations, a lit up Christmas tree, table bonbons and tinsel galore. The guests kept coming, so extra tables were set up and extra plates found in the cupboard. Not one to disappoint, Stuart welcomed everyone warmly with some groan-worthy Christmas dad jokes before the meal was served by the trusty helper team of Irene, Peter, Genevieve, Jeff, Doreen, Elaine, Jane and Stuart.  No one went hungry as we feasted on Christmas chicken, baked potatoes and veggies, followed by fresh fruit salad and mince pies, followed by tea, coffee and chocolate treats. At a suggested price of $5, this must be the best value lunch in the eastern suburbs!

Doreen and Genevieve gave a delightful performance of Christmas songs. We all enjoyed several Christmas singalong songs, accompanied by shaking and ringing table instruments. The table Christmas puzzles had most of us stumped, but a few people proved to be puzzle brainboxes! The Christmas jumbled words weren’t too hard – can you work these ones out?

1.     ATSAN
2.     ATSR
3.     ERDRINEE

Can you turn these really tricky anagrams into Christmas words or phrases?  Here’s a few to see if you are smart as MaryBeth, Bobbie, Catherine and Barbara:

1.    Miss Chatterer
2.     Wolf Snakes
3.     Starfish Rematch
4.     Tossing Eagerness
5.     Ole Ugly
(Answers at the end)

We finished the occasion with singing and dancing “Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree” and “Feliz Navidad” before Stuart thanked the helpers and bade farewell and Merry Christmas to all. Everyone left with big smiles and looking forward to the first Community Lunch of 2023 on the first Wednesday in February.
