Three Minutes With… Eddie Bosch

My earliest memory is . . .  when PM Harold Holt drowned. I was seven and a half and I have a very clear memory of my mother’s upset reaction when she found out. I have a vague memory of St Mark’s preschool and even before that flying back to Australia from England and my father telling the 4-year-old me that the house we were flying over was where my best friend lived.

I grew up in . . . Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and I’m still here. Which reminds me, when I was working at Maroubra Police Station, the Police Commissioner once said to me, “Eddie you have never been west of Anzac Parade!” He was referring to the fact that I had, at that time, spent 30 years working in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. I immediately corrected him, and I said, “Excuse me Boss, Maroubra Police Station is 100 metres west of Anzac Parade!”

On family holidays we went to . . .the Southern Highlands and farms in Wagga and Tumut.

On my next holiday I plan to . . . go to Jindabyne & Mount Beauty for Mountain Biking.

The best thing about bike riding is . . . finishing your ride and having a sense of achievement. Along the way riding downhill is a lot of fun.

The worst thing about bike riding is . . . Rain, falling off and getting hurt, punctures, mechanical failure; mud; being attacked by magpies; having a Strava fail; sore joints, hunger; Thirst …. (I could go on but I only have 3 minutes!)

I found lockdown to be . . .  difficult due to the social and geographic isolation. I tried to make the best of it but it was confronting. I’m very happy it is over.

The first music concert I went to was . . .  Once again I had to research the internet to answer a question.  I couldn’t remember the name of the concerts at Randwick Racecourse that I worked at for a few years as a Police Officer.  As I read through the names of the acts over the years, the only two I recognised that I liked, were Fatboy Slim and Pharrell Williams. Not that I had time to be listening … I was too busy co-ordinating crowd control, drug dog operations, emergency response to drug overdoses, public transport issues, etc.

The best decision I ever made . . . Not going on Facebook

I first came to St Michael’s . . .  was in 1978 with my cousin after I became a Christian at a Crusader Camp.

I decided to go onto Parish Council because . . . The more you give to the church, the more it gives back to you, I learn about all sorts of things through experience and have made a lot of strong friendships.

As for advice . . . recently a friend very wisely said, “Build a bridge and get over it.” This has helped me to just get on with the job and put negative thoughts behind me.
