Nungalinya eNews - July 2022

Dear Bruce & Louise

Season of Plenty!
June was a very busy month at Nungalinya! In our last week we had a new record of over 100 students, visitors and Board members all together at the College. Read on to hear some of the highlights!
Art & Faith
Our second cohort of ‘Art & Faith’ for 2021 continued working on drawings and paintings focussed on Indigenous identity and the Scriptural Way of the Cross. A magnificent, collaborative mural was completed highlighting Jesus’ sacrifice and suffering for us.
Yolŋu Literacy
The first group studying ‘First Language Literacy’ began their journey focussing on kinship and country and the mechanics of reading and writing the various Yolŋu languages. The class also enjoyed excursions to ARDS, the recent ALPA 50 year celebration exhibition and a workshop at CDU on First Language maintenance.
Reconciliation Week
Sadly, NAIDOC week falls in our holiday break with all students and most staff away from Nungalinya. But we did have a wonderful Reconciliation Week celebration together in early June. Songs, items and reflections were offered in many First Languages, highlighting our unity in Christ.

Foundation Studies

All three Foundation Studies blocks ran in June, focusing on Jesus, the Easter story and a New Testament Overview. As always, there were some wonderful sharings in chapel, learnings in class, and even a trip to the Wildlife Park involved! It was a real joy to have experienced men, often Pastors in their denominations, at College to encourage and lead.
NICE

A school group from Emmanuel College visited in the last week and enjoyed a full program. As well as working through our ‘Nungalinya Indigenous Cultural Experience’ modules on kinship, language, art and bush tucker, the team had many opportunities to mix with Nungalinya students and grow their understanding of Indigenous faith.
Board

Our Board met in late June and started to consider both short term and long term future plans for the College. Seasons of plenty and growth are wonderful- but they do also require new plans, structures and buildings!
