Reflection from Alison

A few reflections from me, as I finish my time as Welcome and Integration Coordinator.  First and most importantly, this role is made so much easier by the belief in our community that we are all welcomers!  As we do that, we are doing what the bible says – “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers”  in Hebrews 13:2.

It’s been such a privilege to work with the Welcome Team in the very pleasant task of welcoming newcomers, visitors and oldcomers to SHAP, and helping them to feel part of our community.

Stuart asked me about what the highlights have been over the last three years.  We have had some lovely meals and afternoon teas for our newcomers, mainly round the warm, friendly Rectory dining table, and it’s always wonderful to see old friends who have moved out of the area, and coming back to visit.  But I think a real highlight was when we were able to put big signs up saying ‘Welcome Back!’ after our Covid Lockdown.  Do you remember the joy we all felt coming back together to worship God, and to see each other’s smiles?  Of course we were tentative and still a bit anxious, but our sense of God never changing, and our ability to worship Him always, was palpable.  Let’s keep that joy and delight every time we welcome each other into our community.
