Taize Service
Tuesday 20th June, 2023 at 6.00pm, St. Michael’s Church, Vaucluse.
You may have noticed that from time to time we hold an early evening “Taize service” at St Michaels. This is a shorthand way of describing a service of prayer and meditation held in the style that originated in Taize, a small village in France where a lay community was established during the war as a place of reconciliation and sanctuary.
It has since become a place of pilgrimage for especially young people from all over the world. The focus of the community is on social justice and on meditative prayer using repetitive chants from Scripture. The gift of this style of worship is the space and the quietness to let God guide one’s thoughts and sometimes just “be” in His presence without the need for words.
The service is held at night by candlelight and usually lasts about half an hour. Suggestions are made by the leader about possible areas for meditation. Attached is a link to an online service made during lockdown.
The next Taize service at St Michael’s, Vaucluse is on Wednesday February 22nd at 6pm and the beautiful music is led by our own musicians and singers. We hope that you might join us.
