Prayer Intercessions from Dr David Sturrock

Almighty God, Hear our prayers for your church and for the world.

We give you thanks that through Christ and for Him creation was made, that the same Jesus through whom the world was made is the same Jesus through whom the world has been redeemed, that in Him we can discover what it means to be truly human, that he who walked the dusty streets of Palestine 2000 years ago, who ate, slept and got thirsty, created and sustains the world now. May we continue to participate in the realization and release of Jesus’ love in our bit of creation, and continue to live our lives rooted and built up in him.  We have been reminded today that if we want to know what You are like, we are to look to Jesus, and in Him we see not just power to heal and forgive, but receptivity and humility, receiving and giving, and prayerful dependence on God the Father.”

May it be so for us.

We pray for the peoples of the world, for our neighbours whose lives are made miserable by poverty, homelessness and oppression. Help us to struggle for justice and peace with wise minds and courageous hearts. Help us to be mindful of the earth’s resources and work to preserve them.  We continue to pray for world peace.  And we pray for a just and humane solution to the war in Ukraine.

Give to the Church the spirit of service and humility by the power of Jesus Christ who became human for our sake.  We especially pray for Stuart and Jeff and all who minister to us in this place, that they may do so in the strength of your saving grace and a sure hope in the power of the Gospel.  May your Holy Spirit sustain and nurture them.

We pray also for all those with whom we live and work and play, for our families and our friends.  We give thanks for the way they enrich our own lives.  We pray that they too may come to know your saving love.

We pray for all in trouble or distress, for those whose lives are filled with grief, despair, loneliness, sickness or pain. Help us to reach out to those who need us with understanding minds, generous hearts and souls that thirst for compassion.  We pray for healing for those whose lives come close to ours but are divided by pride and self-will.  May the mind of Christ direct them and us in all our relationships.  In encountering the world’s wounds, let them touch and grieve us, and we offer ourselves to be a place where pain, suffering and sorrow can be met, forgiven and transfigured.

We pray for:

  1. The many in this parish with COVID.  We ask that they may be healed.
  2. The Ware family as they mourn the loss of Jeff’s mother.
  3. For Bruce Kaye facing surgery
  4. For Sue Justice recovering from surgery
  5. We give thanks for those who have signed up for the Christian Stuff course
  6. We give thanks for the upcoming organ recital.
  7. For the Parish Council – for their wisdom and godliness.
  8. We ask that You would raise up a Children’s and Families Minister.
  9. For flood victims, for perseverance and courage to overcome their difficulties, and be to them a firm foundation on which to build their lives.
  10. We pray for a productive and Christ-honouring global Lambeth Bishops conference.

We give you thanks for all your faithful people in every generation.  Ever-living God, dwell in us, that in our living and at our dying we may share in the joy and the freedom of His risen life.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith

We may by your grace receive,

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen
