Tell us a bit about you / your family

I’m married to Maddy, and together we have two wonderful and energetic boys, Isaac (3-years old) and Jude (5-months old). We also have a five-year old Groodle named Moseley who is often confused for a small horse. Some of my favourite things include: English football (particularly Crystal Palace), spending time with my family, and talking to people about Jesus.

What do you most enjoy about ministry?

I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and watching people grow in their love for Jesus.

How do you see the church being a light in the local community?

The Bible teaches us that Jesus is “the true light that gives light to everyone” (John 1:9) and so the best way for us to light-up our community is to point others to him. In my short time at SHAP, I’ve been so excited to see that the church is very active in the local community, sharing the message of Jesus in many diverse ways.

How do you find refreshment for your soul?

I find the greatest refreshment in my regular spiritual rhythms, including Bible reading, prayer, and the joy of Christian fellowship. I also find encouragement and refreshment listening to a broad spectrum of Christian music and taking moments to enjoy God’s beautiful creation (which there is a lot of here on the peninsula!).

I’m thankful to have grown up in a Christian family and so have known about Jesus all my life. However, I think his love for me took on all new meaning when, as a teenager, I realised God wasn’t impressed by who I was or the things I did, but what really matters is knowing Christ personally and being found in him by faith (Phil 3:7-10).

What practices and habits help you to grow?

I often learn and grow the most when I’m challenged to teach—whether it’s preaching a sermon, leading a small group, or explaining something from the Bible to my 3-year-old, Isaac. Each opportunity deepens my knowledge and love for Jesus. Beyond reading and teaching the Bible, I enjoy exploring a wide range of theology, listening to preachers from around the world, and being encouraged and challenged by other Christians—especially my wife!

Why is it important for the church to go and be on mission in the world?

I’m personally convinced that the gospel is the best news and desperately needs to be shared! I also think it’s important to be on mission simply because Jesus told us to…
