I never had anything to do with homeless people until 2010, when at Moore College, I decided to participate in an extracurricular activity involving Newtown Mission. They were a Uniting Church that served lunch 4 days a week and dinner once a week. I served, talked to the clients, worked in the kitchen, and helped with food preparation for the dinner. I even gave a talk. Since 2013 I haven’t done anything except talk to our local Big Issue Seller. So, when Verity, (SHAP’s Honorary Social Outreach Coordinator) asked for people to get involved, I thought ‘why not camp in the backyard?’
