Why I am doing Roughtober

When faced with homeless people sleeping outdoors, I have felt sad and on many occasions I have given them money or food. Having done that, I have walked away feeling despondent knowing that I had really done nothing to make a positive difference to their unfortunate lives.

When Verity encouraged me to participate in Roughtober last year and explained to me the work done by Rough Edges, I realised the power of working as a group and felt for the first time that we (the SHAP team and our supporters) can make a difference to the lives of homeless people. It is also pleasing to know that what we are doing is honouring God “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honours God” – Psalm 14:31.

It’s not too late to join the SHAP team for Roughtober. Please contact Verity Thomson, SHAP Social Outreach Coordinator for more details.
