Community Lunch “Take me home country roads” 5th June

Meg Matthews

Another happy Community Lunch was held last Wednesday at the St Peters Hall, Watsons Bay. We celebrated country music, enjoying songs and singalongs by Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and of course John Denver singing our theme song!

Numbers were down, we think partly due to Covid outbreaks, but the 40 or so who came had a happy and sociable time. Doreen and Genevieve wove their usual magic with the excellent decorations and table settings, and as we have come to expect, the food was varied, healthy and delicious. We enjoyed home made soup, quiches, salad, followed by apple pie, fresh fruit and custard… all for FIVE DOLLARS! Oh, I nearly forgot the tea and coffee served with Wagon Wheels and Graham Humphrey’s special chocolate freckles! Wow! ‘How do they do it?’, I hear you ask. The answer to that question would be the generosity of the volunteers coupled with the generosity of a Woollahra Council Grant.

We enjoyed four rounds of quiz questions, featuring “What’s my tune” and identifying movie clips from famous country-themed TV series and movies. Genevieve led the Nutbush dancing and Country music conga line.

Please keep in mind who you might invite to next month’s Community Lunch… Scottish themed with a real live kilt-wearing Scottish bagpiper! Don’t miss it! Wednesday 3rd July at 11:30. Come and enjoy the lunch, or consider volunteering on the team as a kitchen and serving helper or as a Community Connector to sit and chat with people. Everyone is welcome!
