Three Minutes With… Catherine Kalokerinos

I was born … in the north-east of England, the youngest of four children, and on family holidays we mostly went to Cornwall where my grandmother lived.

I always wanted to … be a nurse after I read about Florence Nightingale

When I was young … The world was our oyster. I was fortunate to travel a bit in Europe and then I decided to go to Vancouver with two others, and that was the first time I met and worked with Australians, and they became my friends.

My journey to Australia … was by ship, and I also spent six months in New Zealand travelling with a friend to both islands and working as a rouseabout.

I had a deadline to meet in 1970 …  that was the passion play in Oberammergau, in Bavaria Germany, that is only performed once every 10 years.  After that I returned to England for two and a half years before returning to Australia.

So what is important to me …?   Faith family and friends, not necessarily in that order! Maintaining good health is also important.

I come to Church … to worship God, to be uplifted, to hear the gospel preached, and to be part of the community of faith. I read the Bible daily and have a time of prayer, this is a source of encouragement to me  and reminded of the rich message and inspiration available from the Bible.

The first time I came to St Michael’s …  was October 2010, a month after I had moved back to Sydney. God always puts me somewhere where I can be useful, ask my daughter Helen!

Best decisions I ever made … was to return to Australia; say yes to Archie and to have children.

Best advice I could give is … follow your heart and keep moving and keep mobile.

I love … being so close to the sea after living inland for about 30 years. I love going to concerts, sadly not recently.

In my spare time … I listen to radio, talk and music, it’s generally  good company.
